1: | | CHEN
Ruichang (elder brother of Richard Chen, NSW)
| | | |
Chen Ruichang, male, 49 years old, was a senior
manager of a media organisation in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. He is the
elder brother of Australian citizen Richard Chen. In Dec 2000, while
he was at work, the police came and forcefully took him to a brainwashing class.
After he returned from the class, his company put him under 24-hour surveillance.
In 2001, he was sentenced to one year forced labour education in Huadu City, Guangdong
Province. This centre is notorious for torturing Falun Gong practitioners and
imposing long hours (15 hours a day) of heavy labour to force them to give up
practising Falun Gong. Former

LIANG Zihui (sister-in-law of Richard Chen, NSW)
| | | |
Liang Zihui, female, 44 years old, worked
in a culture department in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. She is the sister-in-law
of Australian citizen Richard Chen, wife of Chen Ruichang. In the detention
centre, she was beaten constantly by the other criminals and forced to wear a
30KG shackle all the time for 7 days and nights, even during the Chinese New Year
holiday period. Because of her refusal to give up practising Falun Gong, she was
sent to a women's forced labour camp. During her stay in the labour camp, she
was made to work over 13 hours a day, and to attend the brainwashing class every
night. Relatives could only visit her once a month and were not allowed to give
her anything. She was released in August 2001 but was arrested again in June 2002.
The police came to her office and took her back home in order to confiscate her
Falun Gong books and tapes. When they arrived at her house, she refused to open
the door as her son was preparing for the HSC exam inside the house. One hour
later, because she refused to open the door, the police beat her and then cuffed
her and sent her back to the detention centre. She was locked up in a cell with
criminals and drug addicts. In the detention centre, she was threatened with a
15-year prison sentence. Now she is temporarily released on bail but is still
under house arrest. | |

she was sent back to prison for another 5 months before being returned to the
court. She was then sentenced to 3 years in a labour camp. Update:

then was illegally sentenced, without trial, to forced labour camp for 2 years.
On 26th June 2002 she was transferred to a brainwashing class within the labour
camp, which normally lasts for up to 3 months, in an effort to try to make her
renounce her practice. The transformation methods used are often most brutal,

life was in danger, her company bailed her out. During
the period when the Asia Pacific Economic Convention was held in Shanghai in October
2001, Li Ying was placed under house arrest. On 16th October 2001, when she was

She is the sister of Zhang Xiaogang in Sydney, Australia. She started

her liver cirrhosis, from which she had suffered for over 20 years. In the summer
of 2000, she and some other Falun Gong practitioners was arrested by the police
when they practised Falun Gong in Xiaogang Park, Guangzhou City, and were then
detained for 3 or 4 days. About a month later, she was detained again and was
forcefully taken to a brainwashing class for about 2 weeks, and was forced to
pay 1000 Yuan [average monthly income of an urban worker in China is 500 Yuan]
for that class. The police told her
that she would be taken to a labour camp for further brainwashing until she fully
renounced Falun Gong. However, at that time her father was seriously ill. Because
of the lobbying by both of her former employers, the police agreed to let her
temporarily out of the labour camp in order to look after our father. But this
was only on the condition that she reported daily to the police about her activities
and whereabouts. On 15th May 2001,
the day her father died, Alian left home to avoid further persecution. Since 29th
August 2002, relatives have been unable to contact her. In
the middle of September 2002, Guangzhou police informed her daughter that she
had been arrested in Tibet. The police said that they would take her back to Guangzhou
within 10 days, and also said that Zhang Alian was on a hunger strike. It is believed
that now she has been taken to Guangzhou, and will probably be sent to a labour
camp. This was reported by the Falun
Dafa Information Centre on 18 September 2002: http://chinese.faluninfo.net/gb/displayAnArticle.asp?ID=26347
